European Hymn adapted Ninth symphony was adopted by Council of Europe and have been used in European Union since 1972. Herbert von Karajan, one of the greatest composers from the last century accepted on a request of the Council of Europe to write three instrumentals for piano, trumpet and symphony orchestra.

Flag:

Year 1986., Council of Europe adopted a flag which became a emblem of the European Union.

Symbolic description:

On the blue background which symbolize a sky, twelve golden stars lined up in a circle, represent a unity of European nations. Number of the stars is unchangeable, twelve is a symbol of perfection and unity

Heraldic description:

On the blue background there are twelve golden stars lined up in a circle, which dots are not touching each other.

Europe Day:

On may 9th 1950., Robert Schuman presented his proposal for creating organized Europe . This proposal better known as Schuman declaration, is considered to be a beginning of we know now as European union.

Today, may 9th has become European symbol which together with hymn and flag, identifies a political unity of European Union (Europe Day)
