Press releaseSerbia and Montenegro after ThessalonikiEuropean Movement in Serbia approves decisions of EU summit in Thesalloniki as apparent and important signal that whole region is on the path of EU integration. This long-term process is conditioned mainly by political will of states in the region and their determination to conduct reforms and provide economic development and prosperity. However, Serbia and Montenegro is legging behind even in comparison with their Balkan neighbors. Last two years showed that official bodies e.g. political structures didn't properly respond to the need of accelerated approach to EU. In next period it is necessary to double efforts, especially in the field of institutional adjustments and further reforms, in order to become equal with other countries in the region. It is of great importance to create efficient and reasonable organization of state institutions and bodies responsible for cooperation and integration with EU. Until now, there wasn't such organization or it was inadequate. It is of utmost interest that legislative bodies of both union state and republics adopt common declaration about accelerating the European integration process, which would confirm political consensus of all political actors. European Movement in Serbia will, in following period, individually and in the cooperation with other NGOs , establish special mechanism of independent monitoring of the EU integration process. Further more, EMinS will inform public about results of that process. Part of that system is organizing of the international conferences in the frame of long – term EminS' project "Serbia in Europe" . International conference "What after Thessaloniki?" which will be held on June 27th and 28th in Belgrade will be an opportunity for introducing the wider public with realistic picture of Serbia and Montenegro - EU relation.
