the European Movement in Serbia - schedule of the workshop:Final Draft Program for the In-Country Event:"The Role of Civil Society in the Process of Democratization in South-East Europe"Goals of the Workshop. The workshop will bring together representatives from NGOs across the region, so that their experiences can be shared and opportunities for greater cross-border cooperation established. This should have a lasting impact, helping to strengthen the civil society network in South-East Europe. The topics to be addressed are: the role of NGOs in increasing citizen participation; and the potential for NGO cooperation to improve soft security. The workshop also intends to build on the project proposals created at the Washington DC TRANFUSE meeting, especially those drafted by Working Group II on indirect democracy. Thus, the TRANSFUSE members will make use of the opportunity to address non-TRANSFUSE participants attending the workshop in two ways:

Serbia The Round Table will elaborate on opportunities for greater participation of civil society representatives in campaigns leading to political democratization in the countries of SE Europe. The experiences of Croatia will be explained (e.g., the GONG '99 campaign). Issues to be addressed will include:

The panel will offer thoughts on how soft-security can be achieved through more intensive cooperation among NGOs in the region, new Trans-Atlantic cooperation and the expansion of security structures in SE Europe. Panelists will speak for 15 minutes each. Discussion will follow.
Sunday, May 28th 9.30 - 13.30 This session will be directed towards further networking among the group of TRANSFUSE participants and representatives of local civil society organizations from the region. The aim will be to further develop projects initiated at the Washington D.C. workshop. 13.30 - 15.00 Departure of participants.
