workshop:How to Prepare Municipal Budget Harmonized with European Standards?(Belgrade, November 24th and 25th, 2000, premisses of the European Movement in Serbia, Djure Jaksica 5/I) OverviewThe aim of the workshop is to teach representatives from municipalities (i.e. representatives from local authorities, as well as representatives from civil society) on how a municipal budget should be prepared in order to be harmonized with European standards. In the first part of the workshop, participants will be introduced with results of the poll designed to identify the main problems in local government activities perceived by citizens, LG and business community. Moreover, expert survey of the corruption in Yugoslavia, with emphasis on the most important characteristics (based on the GRECO methodology) will be presented as well. Experiences of Transparency International in increasing efficiency and transparency of budgeting at local level in SEE countries will provide participants with useful information what neighbors have done good and where did they do poorly. Two experts Mr. Begovic and Mr. Danneleit will teach representatives from the three municipalities on how to increase the stream of revenue in their municipalities and how to prepare their budget harmonized with European standards.
