The Economic Forum

The President: Goran Cetinić, e-mail: Goran.Cetinic@emins.org

Following the democratic changes in our country, the Economic Forum of EMinS has reoriented its activities to focus on alleviating the consequences of a decade of destructive rule that has had tragic economic consequences, many of which are unique in twentieth-century European history.

Goran Cetinic, the President of the Economic Forum recommends you to read texts "Southeast Europe: Areas of regional cooperation " and "Trade flows in Southeast Europe", courtesy of the author, Mr. Vladimir Gligorov.

The concurrent enormous development of world economy has contributed to changes in a great number of economic postulates and brought a plenty of economic innovations which generations of Yugoslav economists and students of economics have not been able to follow.

Even today, after our country has opened to the world, a lot of information is still not available to our economic public; the new transition flows are insufficiently transparent. The conservative economic education and the work of a new generation of economists in an economy which is closed and lags behind the world trends and whose infrastructure is underdeveloped pose a grave threat to our economic development.

The Economic Youth Forum was established last autumn within the framework of the Economic Forum of EMinS. Its purpose is to offer information to Forum members and those who attend its sessions not available in their economic textbooks or via the media to; this is achieved through discussions and exchange of opinions with high-ranking members of institutions that are actively involved in the transition processes in Serbia . These include domestic creators of our economic policy, representatives of the World Bank, IFC, IMF, EBRD, EAR, the Stability Pact, foreign banks, etc.

The idea behind the Economic Youth Forum is to make modern economic trends accessible to young Serbian economists, to improve their level of information concerning market economy, global world and European trends and economic postulates, and the transition processes in Serbia.

The Forum's guests have been Rory O'Sullivan , the Director of World Bank Belgrade Office, Henry Russell , the Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Belgrade Office, and Božidar Đelić , the Serbian Finance Minister.

Preparations are under way for organizing entrepreneurship courses and similar activities for members of the Economic Youth Forum and for providing funds that would enable groups of young economists from Local Councils to attend the meeting of the Economic Youth Forum and to actively participate in other activities.
