The European Forum- Serbia in Europe

The project coordinator: Dusko Lopandic , PhD
Assistant on the project; Ivan Knezevic, ivan.knezevic@emins.org

The European Movement in Serbia is of the opinion that the both democratization of the country and its introduction in European trends present a matter considering the whole society. EMinS will, within the framework of the project "The European Forum: Serbia in Europe" , organize series of round tables at which our prominent experts from various ministries, non-governmental organizations, and universities present their view of the actual events in the EU and give their proposals on how Serbia and Montenegro should react on the given changes.

The European Forum will be realized from January 2003 to January 2004 through 6 round tables in Belgrade as well as through series of local workshops.

Local workshops will be organized in four cities of Serbia : Novi Sad , Nis , Subotica , and Novi Pazar each of which with another local partner:

  • March 2003-location: Novi Sad ; the topic: "Regions and regional cooperation as a basis of integration processes" ; partners: the University of Novi Sad and NGO the European Vojvodina
  • April 2003-location: Nis ; the topic: "The development of Euro-regions, closing to the Council of Europe " ; partners: the University of Nis , Local council of the European movement in Serbia , and the Agency for the development of local democracy
  • September 2003-location: Subotica ; the topic: "The effects of the EU enlargement on the conterminous cooperation" ; partners: the University of Subotica , the Open University, and the Agency for the development of local democracy
  • December 2003-location: Novi Pazar ; the topic: "The role and the importance of religion for the process of European integrations" ; partners: the Local Council Novi Pazar, NGO Urban-in, CEMED (Centre for multiethnic dialog), and the Civil Forum

The objectives:

Widening of the circle of people competent for the exchange of ideas and opinions on the questions related to regional and European integrations

Increasing level of consciousness and understanding of challenges which are brought by both European integrations and internal reforms of the country

Strengthening of the strategic cooperation between institutions, different organizations, and individuals which have potentials to enforce positive changes in the society in the direction of democratization
