Eurogroup | Trade Policy | Bio-defence

This week will be a quieter one as there are no activities scheduled for the European Parliament as they deal with constituency and extra parliamentary work.

The Eurogroup will meet virtually today, while the College will meet on Wednesday to discuss trade policy and a bio-defence preparedness plan to prepare against the next big health crisis among other things. Health and Food Safety Commissioner Stella Kyriakides will virtually meet with the G7 Health Ministers as well as the EU Scientific Advice Platform on COVID-19 on Thursday.

European Parliament

There are no parliamentary activities scheduled this week as MEPs work on external parliamentary activities and constituency work. Parliamentary activities will resume on 22 February with parliamentary committee meetings.

European Commission

The college will meet this Wednesday to discuss strengthening the EU’s contribution to rules-based multilateralism, conduct a trade policy review including WTO reform initiative, look at an action plan on synergies between civil, defence and space industries, and communicate on a bio-defence preparedness programme to prepare against the next big health crisis. On Monday, Vice-President Timmermans will virtually participate in the European Round Table for Industry on the European Green Deal while on Thursday Commissioner Kyriakides will virtually meet with the G7 Health Ministers as well as the EU Scientific Advice Platform on COVID-19.

Council of the EU

The Eurogroup will be meeting remotely today to discuss macroeconomic developments and policy prospects in the euro area, the international role of the euro, and the recent developments in the solvency of the corporate sector in light of the pandemic among other things. Other events include an informal meeting of economic and finance ministers that will take place on Tuesday as well as an informal meeting of education ministers that will take place on Friday.
