Eurogroup | COVID-19 Variants | EU-Georgia

This week committee meetings are being held in the European Parliament, where MEPs will discuss COVID-19 variants and vaccine efficacy with the World Health Organization and the European Medicines Agency.

The College will meet on Wednesday to discuss COVID-19 and digital green certificates while the Eurogroup meets today. As well as that there are several informal meetings of ministers taking place this week along with the EU-Georgia Association Council.

European Parliament

The Parliament will be holding various committee meetings this week. Notable meetings include the ENVI committee meeting today on COVID-19 variants and how effective vaccines are against them with representatives from the EMA, the ECDC and the WHO, while the CULT committee will discuss on Tuesday how A.I. technologies affect culture, education and audio-visual sectors. There will also be a media event on Thursday discussing how to respond and regulate disinformation without undermining democracy.


European Commission

The College will meet on Wednesday to discuss COVID-19 as well as the digital green certificate. Tuesday will feature not one but two royal visits, as President von der Leyen receives His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, King of Jordan while Commissioner Timmermans visits King Filip of Belgium. Commissioners Urpilainen and Dalli will attend the UN Commission on the Status of Women throughout the week and Commissioners Dalli and Jourová attend the European Anti-Racism Summit on Friday. High Representative Borrell will chair the EU-Georgia Association Council on Tuesday and Commissioner Várhelyi will also be in attendance.

Council of the EU

This week is jam packed, starting today with a meeting of the employment and social policy minsters to discuss the implementation of European Pillar of Social Rights and the situation of equality and non-discrimination in the EU, while foreign affairs and home affairs ministers discuss migration and asylum. The Eurogroup also meets today to discuss the impact of the pandemic on various sectors of the euro area economy. Tomorrow, economic and finance ministers of the EU focus on digital taxation and Europe’s economic recovery from the pandemic and a meeting of the health ministers to discuss the Beating Cancer plan and COVID-19. The EU-Georgia Association Council will also take place tomorrow. On Thursday environment ministers discuss the EU strategy on adaptation to climate change.
