The European Movement is organizing the presentation of the publication “When Serbs and Albanians Loved Each Other”, that will be held on January 31st, 2020 at the Media Center (Terazije 3, Belgrade), starting at 12.00 a.m. Take a look at the agenda.
The book “When Serbs and Albanians Loved Each Other” originated as one of the project’s activities (Towards the Politics of Serbian-Albanian Friendship), supported by the European Fund for the Balkans. The aim of this short publication was to remind on some of the many good stories of love and friendship between Serbs and Albanians from the ancient times to the present. When we dive deeper into ourselves and our past, we see that Serbs and Albanians throughout history mostly lived together and in peace, next to each other and with each other. Therefore, in contrast to the nowadays widespread opinion about the centennial hatred between Serbs and Albanians, documentary sources and diverse texts from the past indicate that Serbs and Albanians mostly perceived each other as friends from the medieval times and all the way to the late 19th century. The book was published on December 28, 2019, as an addition to the newspaper Danas.
The event is organized as part of the project Democratization and Reconciliation in the Western Balkans that is being implemented by the European Movement in Serbia, University of New York Tirana (Albania), Institute for Central Eastern and Balkan Europe (Italy), University of Dubrovnik (Croatia) and Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (Bosnia and Herzegovina), with the support of the European Commission (grant to support the Jean Monnet Activities within the Erasmus+ Programme). The project facilitated the creation of a consortium of higher education institutions, civil society organizations and research institutions with the purpose of delving into the question of reconciliation in the Western Balkans.
