The European Movement in Serbia, in cooperation with the EU Delegation Serbia, is organizing the second online debate in the EU Talks 2.0 series, entitled Agriculture and Investments in Serbia on Tuesday, September 22st, 2020, via the Zoom platform, from 11am to 12:30 pm.

Approximately half of Serbia’s exports of agricultural is directed to the EU market. Harmonisation with EU legislation particularly in area of food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary standards would lead to increasing the quality of food our citizens consume as well as it would boost exports to the EU. EU has set opening benchmarks for Serbia in both chapter 11 Agriculture and rural development and chapter 12 Food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary standards. Serbia has not met them yet.

EU budget significantly subsidizes agriculture and rural development. EU has already since 2014 given the opportunity to Serbia to use 175 million € for support to the agricultural sector to increase its competitiveness and to prepare for participation in EU Common agricultural policy, after accession, where much more significant funds are available for EU member states.

That is why the European Movement in Serbia, with the support of the EU Info Center/EU Delegation Serbia is hosting a series of online debates EU Talks 2.0, to help strengthen valuable communication with citizens and help them assess and make their own judgment regarding the European perspective of Serbia.
