European Movement in Serbia cordially welcomes the European Council’s decision on opening accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia. In the time of COVID-19 pandemic, one of the greatest challenges for Europe and the whole world and when solidarity is needed more than ever, this news is encouraging not only for the two countries but for the entire Western Balkans.
The European Union has shown that it delivers its promises and that its commitment and firm determination on the Western Balkans as a part of a large European family is clear and unambiguous.
Our sincere congratulations to Albania and North Macedonia – they did their best to enable the European Council to come to this decision. We wish and hope that the rest will demonstrate that the EU has good reason to place its trust in the Western Balkans as a region that truly shares and cherishes European values.
