The European Movement in Serbia condemns the inappropriate treatment of António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, by the Israeli authorities. He is a respected and measured high-ranking international official whose position and actions symbolize decades of efforts by the global community to achieve universal peace and uphold the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
This incident represents yet another escalation and violation of international norms and principles in the devastating conflict in Gaza and beyond, to which all UN member states are obliged to adhere.
The European Movement in Serbia, whose primary objective is to promote harmonious relations and cooperation among nations—including respect for human rights and adherence to international law—categorically rejects the logic of war that has resulted in an immense number of casualties and appears to know no bounds.
We call for a renewed commitment to international principles and rules, primarily the adherence to the United Nations Charter and the resolutions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly, as essential prerequisites for restoring order amidst the chaos of war.
