We are transmitting the speech of H.E. Maria Virginia Pina, the Ambassador of Portugal, the country holding the presidency of the European
Union since January 1, 2021, in full:
Thank you for the invitation.
I will start by praising my colleague and friend, Tobias Flessenkemper from the Council of Europe, for this wonderful initiative. Portugal, as the presiding country of the Council of the European Union, but also as a member-state of the European Union and the Council of Europe, is a great believer in Europe and European integration. Therefore, I strongly support this initiative. I must also commend the European Movement for its work and its commitment to European integration.
Thank you very much.
We are transmitting the speech of Dorothea Gieselmann, Deputy Head of the German Embassy, the country holding the presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Council of Europe, in full:
Excellencies, colleagues, dear Jelica, dear Zvezdana, dear Mrs. Jelisaveta Vasilic,
It is a great pleasure to be here. First of all, I would like to thank our hosts – the European Movement in Serbia. Not only for this wonderful initiative, but also for the ceremonial organization of events in the conditions of the COVID-19.
This is an evening of giving and taking. You gave the “Contribution of the Year to Europe” award to Mrs. Vasilic, and you received the European flag, so this is in a way a very transactional evening.
Germany is a great friend of multilateralism, but not necessarily of transactional thinking. Therefore, we are extremely honored to be currently chairing the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. However, I think I can say that this kind of transactionalism that I observed tonight is very close to our heart.
I am very honored and I would like to congratulate Mrs. Jelisaveta Vasilic on the “Contribution of the Year to Europe” award. Also, I want to congratulate the European Movement in Serbia on the European flag, you really deserve it.
Thank you all for your extraordinary work on the European integration of Serbia and for accepting the principles and values of the Council of Europe. You can’t have one without the other. The flag shared by the EU and the Council of Europe is a perfect symbol of Europe’s common values and principles.
Once again, thank you all, I wish you all the best and have a nice evening.
